Sexual Rights Defenders Network (SERIDNET)
Sexual Rights Defenders Network is an association of defenders (Women, women’s groups and organizations) working to promote and advance sexual rights in Uganda. Sexual rights address a wide range of issues related to sexuality and gender, and often intersect with several other human rights.

Under international human rights law, all persons have the right to control and decide freely on matters related to their sexuality; to be free from violence, coercion, or intimidation in their sexual lives; to have access to sexual and reproductive health care information, education, and services; and to be protected from discrimination based on the exercise of their sexuality. These are known as human rights related to sexuality, or simply, sexual rights, and the government of Uganda is required to respect, protect, and fulfill these basic human rights.

Our Aims

SERIDNET aims at advancing sexual rights as a particular set of rights in Uganda. In order to advance the dialogue and advocacy on sexual rights, we endeavour to bring together perspectives that in the past have co-existed but have not collaborated on sexual rights. SERIDNET is well-placed to carry out this work as one of few groups seeking to advance a broad range of sexual rights from an intersectional and feminist perspective.
SERIDNET also aims at creating a political space for advocacy on sexual rights by adopting feminist principles, bridging different perspectives and incorporating diverse views. We acknowledge that different kinds of power exist and are at play in all our interactions and strive to provide all actors with equal and genuine opportunities for
decision-making, engagement, and visibility.
